Frank "Champ" Alvarez Champ went to basic training at Ft. Ord, California, and from there went on to Airborne and Ranger School at Ft. Benning, Georgia in October, 1950. Champ went to Korea in January, 1951, but was sent home in May of that year as he was under age. He rejoined January, 1953 and was assigned to the 11th Airborne Division and went to Germany. In 1958 he returned from Germany and was assigned to the 85nd Ariborne Division. Champ went to Vietnam with the 101st and returned home in November of 1966. He returned for another tour of Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in January, 1968 and returned home in September of 1968. Champ retired from a long service career in March, 1971, and now is an active member of MAPA.
