Art Lopez World War ll Veteran
Art Lopez served in the 82nd Airborne from 1942 to 1945. From Fort Bragg Art went to Buzzard Bay before going overseas. His many stops started in Casa Blanca and from there, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt and the Pyramids. His last stops were in Sicily, Italy, England, Holland, Belgium, Denmark, and Germany.- "American parachutists -- devils in
baggy pants -- are less than 100 meters from my outpost line. I can't sleep
at night; they pop up from nowhere and we never know when or how they will
strike next. Seems like the black-hearted devils are
everywhere..."

Pv. Arthur G. Lopez (left), who wrote the Arizona Register a V-Mail Letter of appreciation from Sicily, was among the first group of paratroopers to invade the island. He was taken prisoner and then rescued shortly afterwards by his companions. |
