Ray C. Castro Ray Castro joined the service in 1948 and had basic training with Co. F, 4th In. Division at Fort Ord, CA. He attended Jump School at Yamoto, Japan, and served with Co. B GIR, 11th Airborne Division and Co. C, 187th ARCT. He also was stationed at Camp Crawford, Sapporo, Japan, and Camp Campbell, KY. He was honorably discharged under disability conditions in 1950 after sustaining major injuries from a parachute jump at Fort Campbell. His memorable experiences include flying/jumping from C-46, C-47, and C-119's and qualifying as a parachutist/gliders. Ray had good times with the Rakkasans at Camp Crawford, Japan and was awarded parachutist and glider badges and the Occupation Medal. Ray retired from Federal Civil Service after 29 years. He and Connie , his wife of 42 years, now enjoy a beach house in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico, which he built. |
